1999 Chateau Latour a Pomerol

I was pleasantly surprised when I tasted this classic Bordeaux.  It was unpretentious, exhibited good aromas and was well balanced, tannin-wise.  This wine stood on its own two legs, and did not require food.  It was enjoyable, and I probably would pair it with pan-roasted quail next time.
